Grapefruit + Lillet Cocktail

This month has really flown by and I’m just now catching up on some overdue posts. The kitchen has been in a bit of disarray over the past couple of weeks as we’ve been preparing for the electric to gas stove conversion, and do a few updates here and there to make it more… us. We thought it would be as simple as running the gas line and getting the stove, but come to find out there are all kinds of requirements for ventilation when it comes to gas, so we had to quickly find a proper hood (apparently a ceiling vent is not sufficient). The gas stove will be here any day now and I might just hug and kiss it! One year with electric has been one year too much for me.

I wanted to share this cocktail I just discovered as I’m a big fan of Lillet. And Lillet tastes so good on its own I was a bit hesitant to make this. Lillet has that sweet, but not too sweet, bitter, but not too bitter citrusy flavor that really appeals to me. I was inspired by a recipe I saw in Sprouted Kitchen’s new cookbook for a Grapefruit Lillet Sherbet. Did a bit of searching and found a few variations on a cocktail, most are made with the addition of gin or vodka. I chose the vodka route since I love the flavors of Lillet and thought gin might take away from that. I have yet to test the gin version but I’m totally happy with the vodka version. The fresh grapefruit juice combined with Lillet is magic. It works better than I expected. It’s a perfect light and refreshing summer cocktail. This was shaken with ice and then poured, but you could serve with ice if you prefer. Cheers!

Grapefruit + Lillet Cocktail

  • 1 measure Lillet
  • ½ measure vodka
  • 1 measure fresh grapefruit juice (1 grapefruit yielded about 4 ounces of juice)
  • Ice
  • Grapefruit slices or peel for garnish

Pour Lillet, vodka and grapefruit juice into an ice filled shaker. Shake well and strain into glasses. Garnish with grapefruit.
